Kim found it hard to breathe due to the way she cried. She couldn’t still believe Landon was lying lifeless in the ward.
The door of the ward opened and the doctor walked out. Kim jumped to her feet and ran to meet him.
“How is he doctor?” She asked cleaning her eyes.
“He is out of danger, but I must say his condition is critical. Where is his mother?” He asked and Kim swallowed hard.
“I am yet to get across to her. I am still trying to unlock his phone.” She mumbled and he breathed out loud.
“We need her here, if not her, then his family has to be here before we can disclose any information.” He said and she looked at his phone in frustration.
“What did you use for your password for crying out loud!” She thought with tears flowing down her eyes profusely.
She thought of any situation which must have prompted what he used. Then something dropped in her mind.
“Egocentric Kimberly.”
He had called her that before, but he doesn’t use it that much.
“why do I have a feeling he used me for his password? She thought, typing Egocentric Kimberly on his phone.
She prayed silently that it worked if not, she could throw the phone away in anger.
She imputed “y” which was the last letter and before she knew it, the phone opened.
“Oh my God! He used me!” she stated looking at him through the window. She quickly went to his contacts and searched for anything which looked like his mother’s contact.
She found the contact which was saved with “sweet mother”. She clicked on it and dialed it in haste.
She waited nervously for her to pick up. She didn’t know how to put the situation to her but she knew she had to tell her anyhow she could.
The phone rang and on the second ring she picked up.
“Are you just realizing I left your house?” She asked before Kim could speak up.
“Ma’am, this is Kim ma’am. Something has happened, we are at the hospital now. The one closest to Landon’s mansion. Please we need you at the hospital now.” She rapped.
“oh no!” His mother replied and before Kim knew it, she hung up.
She followed the same path the doctor took and found herself in front of his office.
She breathed in and out not knowing whether to knock at that moment or wait till his mother to get there.
“I don’t think I can wait,” She thought to shake her head and to knock on the door.
She opened afterward and met the doctor going through some papers on his desk.
“Sir.” She said and he raised his head to look at her.
“Hey. Come in and have your seat.” He said and she nodded walking in. She sat and tried to smile.
“Sir, his mother is on the way, and I am his girlfriend, please can you tell me what is going on? I can’t take it anymore.” She muttered and he sighed.
“Okay. Mr. Landon has a very critical illness. He has kidney cancer, it was at a minor and manageable stage before but now it has upgraded to a more dangerous stage, which will require a transplant for him to keep living.” He explained and Kim’s eyes widened.
“What? Why did he get worse? Wasn’t he on medications?” She asked as more tears rolled down her eyes.
“It is possible he didn’t stick to the medications or didn’t follow instructions carefully. Like avoiding some intakes I warned him about.” He added and Kim’s eyes widened.
“His allergies,” Kim mumbled and he nodded.
“Oh no. I caused it, I made him take it.” She thought as she busted into more tears.
“Doctor! Where is my son?” Sara asked barging into the office.
“Ma’am, please you have to relax. Your son will be fine.” He said and she looked at Kim before sitting.
“Kim, can you please excuse us?” He asked and she nodded standing up.
She walked out of the office weakly. It was all her fault.
“Why didn’t he tell me he has health issues.” She said feeling sad.
She walked back to the ward and she saw Landon was awake already.
“Landon.” She called walking into the ward he turned to look at her.
“What are you doing here? Have you washed the dishes?” He asked and more tears rolled down Kimberly’s face.
“This is not the time to act all strong and bossy. You scared the hell out of me.” She said cleaning her eyes.
“Are you crying? Why are you crying? I thought you hate me and wish me dead.” He replied and she shook her head.
“I would never wish you dead, and that doesn’t mean I don’t hate you.” She said with a faint smile on her face.
“Whatever. What are you doing with my phone?” He asked with shock on his face.
“I am sorry Landon. I am the cause of all this.” Kim started ignoring his question.
“That wasn’t the question. What are you doing with it? Let me have it.” He said stretching his hand forward and she passed the phone to him. He looked at the screen and saw she unlocked it already.
“How did you do it?” He asked looking at her.
“do what?” She responded furrowing her brows.
“How did you get my password?” he thought and she sighed.
“I guess okay?” she responded feeling frustrated. He was in a bad condition and all he could think of is his phone password?
“You guessed I used your name. So nice.” He replied as he kept pressing his phone.
“Don’t you know what is going on? Why didn’t you tell me you are ill?” Kim asked and he sighed.
“I just sent the money to Alex.” He said shutting his eyes.
“What?” she asked in shock.
“First things first.” He replied with a smile on his face.
TBC…
