AFTER A DAY

Landon and Peter waited for the doctor to come outside. They were eager to know what is happening with Kimberly.

The door opened and they rushed to the doctor as he came out.

“You don’t have to worry. She is perfectly okay. Everything is stable.” The doctor said and Landon shut his eyes giving thanks to God.

“I am so happy about this good news. Thank you so much, doctor.” Peter said and the doctor nodded before walking away.

Landon smiled widely, opening his eyes and looking at Peter.

“Congratulations to us.” He said and Peter laughed.

“Congratulations it is.” He responded.

“We should go and see her now right?” Peter asked and Landon nodded.

“you go, I will join you,” Landon said and Peter furrowed his brows.

“Are you going somewhere?” He asked and Landon smiled.

“Yes. But you don’t have to worry. I would be back very soon.” He said and Peter nodded.

“Okay then. Don’t stay long, you know how Kimberly can be when she doesn’t see it for minutes.” He said and Landon laughed.

“Yes, I know. But you can just tell her I went to get something. No big deal, I am coming back.” He said and Peter nodded.

Landon walked away from him and headed to the hospital exit. As soon as he was out, he pulled out his phone from his pocket and put a call across to Ruby.

“Come home early!” He heard Ruby said at the other end when she picked the call.

“Hi, Mr. Landon.” She greeted after focusing on the phone call.

“Hi, Ruby. I bet you were talking to Daniel right?” He asked and she giggled.

“Yea. He is going for this meeting, so I had to say that.” She said and Landon smiled.

“I understand. I need a favor from you, Ruby.” He said and the other side went silent for some seconds.

“A favor?” She finally replied.

“Yea. I need a lady’s help, and you are the first person my mind went to.” He said and Ruby felt so surprised.

“What is this favor about sir?” She asked anxiously.

“I want to buy a wedding ring, but I don’t know which type she would love. I thought a lady should be able to help out.” He said and Ruby became calm.

“Oh that… I can be of help for sure. And I am so happy for you guys.” She said smiling and Landon smiled too.

“Thank you, Ruby. So are you chanced now? I wish to get it today.” He said and she nodded.

“Of course. Where are you? I would come to you.” She said and he shook his head.

“no. I should be the one to come to you. You are home right?” he asked.

“Yes, I am.” She responded.

“I will be there very soon then. Thank you so much.” He said happily and hung up the call. He hopped into his car and drove out of the hospital.

“It is time to do the right thing.” He muttered as he drove.

“Hey, baby.” Peter greeted Kimberly and she answered him with a smile.

“Hey, daddy.” She responded a little weakly.

“How are you feeling baby?” he asked and she sighed.

“I don’t know. I am wondering why my room was changed. The last thing I remember is that I was sleeping in the other room.” She said and Peter smiled.

“So you aren’t aware you now have a good and healthy kidney?” Peter asked happily and Kimberly’s eyes widened.

“Are you serious?” She asked and he nodded.

“A donor came right in time, so the doctor proceeded in giving it to you after testing it and making sure it wouldn’t be a threat to you,” Peter explained and Kimberly smiled.

“I am so happy Dad. But where is Landon?” She asked looking around.

“I was wondering how long it would take for you to realize that he isn’t around. He went out to get something, you don’t have to worry. He is absolutely fine.” Peter said with a smile and Kim nodded.

“Have you met with the donor?” She asked and Peter shook his head.

“not yet Kim. That can come later, the compensation and appreciation, all can come later. I just need to make sure you are alright.” Peter said and Kim nodded slowly.

“I would wish to meet the person soon,” Kim said and Peter nodded.

“Of course.” He said and they both smiled.

“I am tired of staying here doctor. Can’t I just go home?” Alex asked feeling so bored.

“It isn’t advisable to go home now. You had surgery a day ago. You need to be watched carefully so there won’t be complications.” The doctor explained.

“Fine. And how is Kimberly? Is she conscious now?” He asked and the doctor nodded smiling.

“Yes. And we say thank you for helping out.” He replied.

“Have you told them I am the donor?” Alex asked eagerly and he shook his head.

“Not yet. I thought you wanted to tell them yourself.” The doctor said and Alex sighed.

“well, I feel they would be curious. And you should just tell them.” He said and then he heard his phone ring.

“Please help me with that.” He said to one of the nurses. She reached for it and passed it to him.

He picked up and waited for the person to speak up.

“You won’t believe who I just saw.” The person said from the other end.

“what is it this time Jeremy?” Alex asked shutting his eyes.

“I just saw Landon in a wedding store. Are you thinking what I am thinking?” He asked and Alex’s eyes widened.

He hung up and looked at the doctor.

“You know what. I would tell them myself, you don’t have to tell them anymore.” He said and the doctor nodded walking out.

“You are dreaming Landon. That will never happen.” He muttered staring into space.
