Cisco chuckled while Thea kept a straight face. “What’s funny?” She asked with a pout.
“How can I be mad at sleep? Why will I be?” He asked trying to suppress his laughter. “I am not sure,” she replied scratching the back of his head.
“I have lots of work tonight, so I will be staying up. You should go to sleep,” he said. “Can I help?” She asked moving closer.
“No, you should rest,” he suggested. “I’m not tired and I want to help,” she pouted.
“No,” he replied firmly. He picked up a file and started going through it, she tiptoed towards him and tried to peek at the file but he was fast to hide it.
“Pleasase!!” She pleaded. “Stop bothering me Thea,” he scolded getting up.
“I only want to help,” she sobbed, she face palm herself and pretend to be crying. “Don’t be a crybaby,” he mocks moving closer to her.
He tried to remove her hand but he was unable to remove it, more like her palm was glued to her face. “Don’t be stubborn,” he groaned as he tried harder but she won’t budge.
“Fine I’ll let you help,” he gave in to her request and she took her hand from her face, he was surprised to find her face dry he thought she was crying but she was just putting on an act.
“You should be an actress,” he said and she smiled revealing her upper teeth. “Cute,” he muttered and she blush.
He noticed and started away. “You can’t stare at a cute girl for long,” she teased standing close to him.
“Cute girl? I can’t remember seeing a cute girl,” he denied. “Liar deny it all you want, I know am cute,” she bragged and flip her hair backward.
“Cute? Who has been feeding you lies?” He asked turning to face her but avoiding eye contact with her.
“You,” she answered. “Me? You are lying right to my face!” He exclaimed.
“I’m not lying, you said it right now that I am cute,” she explained. “Oh! I was not talking to you….,” he trailed off and his eyes caught the half-moon.
“I was referring to the moon, the moon is cute,” he said and she scoffed. “There is no moon in the sky, but don’t worry I will buy your lie I know it’s hard to admit you have a cute girl in your room,” she said with her arms folded under her breast.
Cisco chuckled and walked closer to her, he turned her around and her eyes came into contact with the half-moon.
“Isn’t that cute?” He whispered into her ears. “Yes…., wait no! No, it’s not,” she denied trying to turn around but he held her back.
“Stay steal, just admit the truth,” he said and she raised her head to look at the moon because she was staring at the ground since he won’t let her turn.
“You are right,” she said and his hand left her shoulder to her waist, she felt goosebumps but decided to ignore it.
Cisco pulled her closer making her back hit his chest, he back hugged her and strangely she felt comfortable.
She would have hit him if it was just anyone, does that mean he is not just anyone to her? She just let herself relax and enjoy the view of the moon.
Cisco was surprised that he was drawn to her and more surprised that she didn’t fight back, he has not felt like that towards any woman in years.
Thea felt his rapid heartbeat and chuckled. “Are you excited that you are hugging a cute girl?” Thea asked.
“Yeah,” he replied unknowingly. “Gotcha!” She screamed and his hand loosened as she suddenly turned around.
“You just admitted that I am cute, I heard it perfectly,” she said pointing her index finger at him. “Do you want to be complimented that much?” He asked.
“No,” she replied taking the paper on the floor, he must have dropped it while trying to make her see the moon.
“Is this what you were working on?” She asked sitting on the bed. “Yes,” he answered sitting beside her.
“What are you going to do?” She questioned still staring at the file. “I bet you didn’t study business,” he teased.
“I didn’t go to college,” she replied frankly. No words came out of his mouth at that moment, he stared at her trying to figure out if she was joking.
“So what do you….,” she trailed off when she caught him staring at her. “Am cute I know, now tell me what I can do to help,” she said diverting her gaze to the weird file.
“You didn’t go to college?” He inquired. “Yeah, I couldn’t afford it,” she replied.
“Are you an orphan?” He asked. “No, my dad is in a comma and my mom is in a mental asylum,” she replied.
“I’m sorry, I should not have asked,” he apologized feeling sorry for her. “Don’t be, I’m fine now besides it happened a long time ago,” she said and let out a sad smile.
“It must have been hard for you,” he sympathized. “Yeah it was,” she mumbled.
“Can I help?” He asked. “Huh?” She furrowed her brows. “I wanna know if there is something I can do to help,” he elaborates.
“Are you a doctor? If you are then you can treat my parents, maybe mom would feel better if dad wakes up,” she said.
“You can finish college,” he blurted. “Nah, I want to earn money, I’ve got lots of bills to clear,” she replied.
“You can get a better job if you finish college, you don’t have to go to school you can just study online,” he suggested.
“I don’t have money for tuition fee,” she complained. “School isn’t for me,” she added
“I’ll take care of the bills,” he volunteered. “You….,” she was cut short by his hug.
“What are you doing?” She questioned not reciprocating the hug. “You must have wanted this,” he said patting her back.
He was right, she always want someone to be there for her, to hug her and tell her she did a great job. “I guess,” she mumble and slowly moved her hand to hug him back when his phone suddenly rang.
“Excuse me,” he said before rushing to the table, it was Greg. Cisco scratch his brows as he stared at his brother’s name flash on his phone, he was hesitant in picking it up because they were only going to fight.
“You should head to bed, you will start school tomorrow,” he said to Thea and she left without saying a word.
“Hello,” Cisco said calmly as he picked up. “What took you so long to pick up?” Greg queried and Cisco pictured what his face looked like at that moment.
“I was not expecting your call by this time of the night,” Cisco replied. “It’s not like you sleep so why the act?” Greg asked.
Cisco’s grip tightened on the phone as he said that, how dare he rub it in his face when he is partially responsible for what happened.
“Can’t talk?” Greg mocked. “What do you want?” Cisco inquired instead.
“I warned you to stay away from what is mine! Why do you keep interfering?!” Greg growled. “Is this about sister-in-law and Flora?” Cisco questioned but got no reply.
“She reached out to me,” Cisco added. “You should have ignored her!” He snapped.
“And give her the thought that I am a demon like you?” Cisco asked and scoffed. “Stop being insecure Gregory I won’t take away what is yours,” he added.
“You won’t because you can’t! Stay away from my family,” Greg warned. “What can I do? They are my family too,” he replied.
“Talking back, that’s new,” Gregory smiled shortly. “Isn’t it time I come out of the shadows?” Cisco questioned.
“You shouldn’t cause the sun is going to burn you,” he replied and laughed hysterically. “Francisco Kings, don’t try to forget,” Greg added and cut the call.
Cisco dropped the phone on the table and ran his hand through his hair. “Cisco!” A girl’s voice echoed in his head.
“No! Stop!” He yelled covering his ear with his palm as his eyes turned red, he sat on the floor and covered his ear as some images flash in his eyes.
***********
“Good morning Fiona,” Thea greeted as she got to the dining table. Fiona turned around and replied, “morning ma’am”
“Breakfast” She mumble and lick her lips as she stared at the delicious food on the table, she pulled a chair for herself to sit but Fiona’s words made her freeze.
“When is Mr. Kings coming down for breakfast?” Fiona asked. “Cisco is not out yet?” She questioned back.
“Yes,” Fiona answered and she checked the time on her phone, it was past eight. “Isn’t he going to work?” She wondered out loud and stared at the food.
“You babies should wait,” she muttered to the food before rushing upstairs. She didn’t knock when she got to Cisco’s toom, she barged in and he hid something in his back as he turned around to face her.
