“Flora,” Octavia called and squat to reach her height. “Why are you crying?” Octavia asked raising her jaw and making her look into her eyes.
“Aunt Allison said I am not important to uncle Cisco,” Flora told Octavia. “She said that?” Octavia asked with her mouth slightly open.
“Am I not important mommy?” Flora asked. “Don’t tell me you believe Allison? You are important to everyone, to your dad and I, your grandparents, your uncle Vin and your uncle Cisco, you are important to every one of us,” Octavia reassured.
“But Aunt Allison..” Vin cut her short. “Allison is not a part of our family and she knows little about you that is why she thinks you are not important, but you should know better that we all love you,” he said and squatted beside Octavia.
“I am important,” she declared and Octavia smiled. “Of course, I can’t believe you let her words get to you,” Vin said and shook his head sideways.
“I will not let her words get to me ever again!” She screamed while Vin and Octavia laughed. “It’s your night you should enjoy it,” Octavia said.
“I love you, mommy and uncle,” she said and hugged them, they hugged her back and she giggled.
“That reminds me,” she said and pulled away from the hug. “You didn’t come with a plus one,” she directed her words at Vin.
“My plus one is busy,” he replied. “You have a girlfriend?” Octavia gasped.
“She is not my girlfriend yet but I plan on asking her out, I hope she says yes,” he said with a blush.
“You must like her a lot since you are blushing at the thought of her,” Octavia teased and he blushed more.
“I wonder why uncle Cisco isn’t here either,” Flora uttered with a sad expression. “He called I forgot to you,” Vin said.
“What did he say? Why couldn’t he make it?” Flora asked. “He is busy with something, he apologized and promised to make it up to you,” Vin delivered his message.
“It must be something important, this is the first time he won’t be coming to a family event,” Flora stated.
“You are right,” Octavia agreed. “I and daddy should visit him tomorrow, what do you say?” Flora asked Octavia.
“Why your dad? I can go with you,” she said and Flora smiled. “It’s a plan,” she replied.
“I doubt your dad going with you,” Vin said. “I’ll throw a tantrum if he doesn’t,” she replied.
“Is this where you guys plan on celebrating her birthday?” Mrs. Kings asked as she walked outside.
“No grandma,” Flora replied as they all got up. “It’s time to cut the cake but the birthday girl is nowhere to be found,” Mrs. Kings said.
“We are sorry for that, Flora was not feeling too well,” Octavia lied. “What happened? How are you feeling now?” Mrs. Kings asked worriedly.
“I feel better grandma, let’s join the party,” Flora said and they went in. “I can’t believe Allison made Flora cry on her birthday,” Octavia uttered.
“That is Allison for you,” Vin replied and they went in, Vin scanned the room for Allison as soon as he got Into the house.
He found her staring at a sculpture while she sipped from her drink. “Why did you say that to Flora?” Vin questioned standing beside her.
“I didn’t say anything wrong, did I?” She asked and Vin chuckled. “It isn’t wrong to you but you made that poor girl cry,” he said.
“It’s good to shed tears once in a while,” she replied. “I don’t know where my dad got a psychopath like you but trust me when I say I’m going to cut off your head if you mess with my family,” he threatened.
“I wanna see you try,” she dared him and smirked. “Go and study brother-in-law,” she added and pat his shoulder before walking away.
Vin dust her hand off him and glared at her until he was out of sight. “Annoying bîtch,” Vin muttered.
Vin took his parents home after the party, Mrs. Kings won’t stop complaining about Allison showing up at the party uninvited.
“I guess that is why Cisco didn’t show up,” Mrs. Kings. “That son of yours is becoming unbearable,” Mr. King said.
“No, Allison is the problem here. Cisco would not be avoiding us if she didn’t come into our lives,” Mrs. King retorted.
“I don’t know why you guys are always against Allison?” Mr. Kings questioned. “We have no idea why you are obsessed with Allison?” Vin questioned back.
“I see you now talk back to me,” Mr. Kings scoffed. “Allison is a devil, I don’t know why you refuse to see that,” Mrs. Kings retorted.
“This conversation is heading nowhere,” Mr. Kings spat and stared away. Vin’s mind drifted to Thea and he checked his phone to see if there is a message or call from her but there was nothing.
“Have you called her?” Mrs. Kings asked Vin referring to Thea. “Yes but she’s not picking up, I will go and see her tomorrow,” he answered.
Mr. Kings was curious to know what they were talking about but his ego would not let him ask, he just tightened his grip on his phone as he stared outside.
*********
Thea let out a low groan as she opened her eyes, she pushed the duvet that was covering her face off. Cisco did that when she was shaking.
Thea stared at the drip on her hand, she traced it to the IV bag beside the headboard and back to her wrist.
She wondered what happened and her mind drifted to Cisco coming in and her temperature rising rapidly until she collapse in his arm.
She tried to seat up but she felt weak so she fell back, her gaze rested on Cisco whose head was resting on the bed while his butt was on the floor.
‘He must have been scared,’ she thought and touched his hair with her other hand. She stroked it gently and he raised his head immediately, his eyes were swollen as a result of stress.
His joy knew no bound as his eyes met with hers. “You are awake?” He asked and she nodded.
“How do you feel?” He asked and hurriedly place his hand on her forehead to check her temperature.
“A bit weak and hungry,” she replied. “Hungry?” He asked and she nodded.
“He said to give you warm water, not food,” Cisco mumbled inaudibly to himself. “Excuse me, don’t try to get up until I return,” he ordered and left the room.
Thea rested her back on the pillow and she whimpered lowly. Adrian placed a call to Malcolm as he walked into the kitchen, there was no maid there since it was past midnight.
“Hey,” Malcolm uttered sleepily. “She is awake and she is requesting food,” Cisco informed him.
“Let her eat,” Malcolm replied. “I thought she is to drink warm water first,” he said.
“Give her food and warm water,” Malcolm stated. “Okay, don’t sleep I’ll call again if there is any development,” Cisco said.
“Not everyone is suffering from insomnia like you,” Dr. Malcolm stated and cut the call. “He is a jerk,” Cisco mumbled and dropped his phone on the counter.
“What am I going to prepare?” He wondered as he opened the cabinets one after the other. “Pasta!” He snapped his finger happily and brought it out of the cabinet, he took it to the room after he was done with warm water.
“Food is here,” Cisco announced as he walked into the room with the tray in his hand, she tried to sit up but she was still too weak.
“I told you not to stand up,” Cisco scolded and she chuckled weakly, he helped her sit up but with her back rested on the headboard.
“Can you feed yourself?” He asked. “I can try,” she replied, he placed the tray on the bed beside her.
Her hand shook weakly because the drip was fixed on her right hand so it was hard for her to hold the fork properly.
“I’ll feed you,” he volunteered and she rested her back, she was too hungry to protest so she just let him do his wish.
She was almost done with the food when she felt something build up in her chest, she tried to suppress it but the more she did the greater the force in her chest.
She stared away as a sign for Cisco to stop feeding her, she felt disgusted by the smell of the pasta, and her throat was filled up with an unknown substance.
Her saliva tasted sore, she tried to swallow it but she could not home it. “Are you feeling uncomfortable?” Cisco asked.
“Do you need something?” He asked but she only moved to the edge of the bed hoping to release whatever it is on the floor.
Cisco dropped the food and walked to the other side of the bed. “Say something,” he requested and she opened her mouth to say something but she ended up throwing up on him.
