Mrs. Kings and Vin made eye contact then diverted their gaze at Flora who kept playing with the doll in her hand.
“Flora,” Vin called. “Humm,” that was her response as she kept playing with the doll.
Vin held her by both shoulders and carried her up, he made her sit on his lap and she faced Mrs. Kings in return.
“Now, tell us Flora what is wrong with your uncle Cisco?” Vin asked. “I already told you guys,” she replied with a pout
“We want you to repeat it, come on be nice,” Mrs. Kings pleaded and she puffed out some air. “Fine,” she groaned and they watched her in excitement.
“Daddy and uncle Cisco argued in my presence earlier, daddy said uncle Cisco had full insomnia,” she repeated and their eyes widened.
“Insomnia?” Mrs. Kings repeated in disbelief, Vin dropped Flora who stop still not moving an inch. “Are you sure you heard him right?” Vin asked.
“Yes, I was standing so close to them,” she replied. “What is insomnia by the way?” She asked and Vin gulped down, Mrs. Kings looked away.
They wanted to repay her by explaining what it means but they don’t want her to have such thoughts at such a young age.
“It isn’t a sickness,” Mrs. Kings blurted and Vin raised his head at her to find out what she was up to, why did she lie? How will the girl feel when she finds out?
“Mom,” Vin called lowly as a warning but Mrs. Kings ignored him. “If it isn’t then what is it?” Flora asked.
“It’s just something only adults have,” she explained in a simpler term. “Only adult? Like a baby?” She asked
“Yes my dear, just like babies,” Mrs. Kings agreed with her. “Okay,” she mouthed and went back to play with her doll.
Vin stood up and went outside, Mrs. Kings called a maid and ordered her to play with Flora before she followed him too.
“You weren’t aware of this?” Mrs. Kings inquired. “Isn’t it obvious,” he replied.
“Why will Cisco have insomnia? Is he treating it? How long has he had it? Why didn’t be tell us?” Mrs. Kings asked no one in particular as confusion was imprinted on her face.
“I am just as confused as you are, why does Greg know about it? The last time I check, Greg and Cisco are not besties. Cisco will never decide to tell Greg something that serious, did he find out on his own? Even if he did, how?” Vin asked and Mrs. Kings exhaled.
“We should call Cisco, without him this confusion won’t be cleared,” Mrs. Kings suggested and Vin went back inside, Flora was busy playing with the maid and doll to even notice him.
He picked up his phone from the sofa and went back outside, he dialed Cisco’s number but he didn’t pick up. He tried it several times but it was still the same, he groaned and faced his mother.
“He is not picking up,” he informed her. “Try later, he must be busy or something,” she guessed and he nodded.
She rubbed her palm against each other nervously as tears threaten to escape her eyes. “Mom,” Vin called standing close behind her.
“Don’t be like this, Cisco will give a clear explanation to this when he gets here,” he assured her.
She sniff back her tears and managed to reply to him. “I am just sad that your brother doesn’t trust us enough to share his pains with us.”
“You know Cisco, he likes taking responsibility for himself. He thinks he is a burden once he involved others,” Vin reminded her. “But we are bid family Vincent,” she protested as her heart groan in pain.
“Let’s be patient mom,” he told her and she hugged him, she couldn’t hold back her tears, she let it all out on his shirt.
Vin hugged her and pat her back gently, he closed his eyes as he wondered what his brother goes through all alone.
He is always awake, with no one to talk to, it must have felt lonely and scary. Maybe none of this would have been if his parents let him live with Cisco when he wanted to.
Vin’s phone rang and his mom disengaged from the hug immediately with the hope that it is Cisco, Vin checked the caller’s ID and was taken aback when he saw Thea’s name.
Mrs. Kings wiped her tears and asked. “Is it your brother?”
“No it’s my friend,” he replied and took a few steps away from his mother before picking up.
“Hey,” he said softly, her voice was clear but it was still obvious she was sick.
“Hey, I am sorry for not fulfill….. ” he cut her short. “Are you sick?” He inquired.
“Yes,” she replied with a light chuckle. “Do you feel better now? Where are you? Your friend told me you live with your boss, text me the address and I will be,” he rushed his words and Thea could not help but smile in her room.
“You should take a deep breath first,” she advised and he smiled. “Sorry, I am just worried,” he apologized.
Mrs. Kings went back inside and he sighed in relief, he was feeling slightly embarrassed that he is worried about a girl who is not even his girlfriend yet.
“I know and I appreciate it but I am okay now, you don’t have to worry about me. I feel much better, I only feel bad for not making it to the party, you must have been hurt, please forgive me,” she requested.
“It’s fine, it was not done intentionally,” he replied and she smiled at the other side. “I hope you enjoyed the party without me,” she said.
“It was not that fun, are you sure you don’t want me to visit, or is your boss the strict type? Tell me where we are can meet up? I will come to you,” he suggested.
“I am getting better, Vin none of that is necessary I will see you once I am totally fine,” she assured him.
“My bad, you need enough rest,” he muttered. “Let’s talk later, I appreciate your understanding,” she said.
“You are welcome, do take care of yourself,” he advised and she nodded at the other side as if he could see her.
“Bye,” she said and hung up. “I miss her,” Vin mumbled and stared at his phone screen. “Should I call her again?” He wondered.
“What am I going to tell her?” He asked himself. “I should call later, I will have a perfect excuse than,” he concluded and went inside.
**********
Thea dropped the phone on the bed and smiled, she felt so proud of herself for solving the misunderstanding.
She decided not to give him his address because she thought it would be improper for a guest to have a guest over.
Cisco might not misinterpret things and be fine with it but she isn’t, she doesn’t want to make Cisco uncomfortable.
He took care of her when she was sick, and the best thing she can do is to behave herself. “His phone was ringing earlier,” she mumble and picked it up from the lamp table beside the bed.
His phone was locked so she could not tell who it was. “You trying to go through my phone?” Cisco asked behind her and she lost her balance due to fear.
He caught her before she could hurt herself and luckily his phone fell on the bed. “Be careful,” he told her and she bit her lips.
“Sorry, It was ringing….” He completed her sentence for her, cutting her short. “You decided to take a peak.”
“No that is not it, I wanted to tell the person you are not around and I can relay the message he or she should tell me,” she explained herself.
He carried her in a bridal style and she was quick to wrap her arms around his neck, he stared at her face and she stared at nothing.
She was nervous about looking at his face because she is not sure she would be able to look away. “Why do you weigh so little?” He asked.
“I’m sick and I rarely eat,” she replied. “Should I tell my ancestors to feed you?” He asked jokingly.
“No, I’ll be fine,” she replied and he chuckled, he placed her on the bed but she protested immediately.
“I’m tired of lying in bed, I want to sit on the couch,” she said and he carried her to the couch, his phone interrupted them.
“Excuse me,” he said and picked up, he said nothing as he walked out of the room.
“Hey, I saw your missed calls,” Cisco uttered sarcastically as he walked into his room.
“Mom wants to see you,” Vin replied. “Mom? Why?” He inquired.
“She wants you to drop by today,” Vin replied. “Today? Can’t it be tomorrow or something, I just can’t leave my house yet,” he told him.
“It’s urgent, and I will advise you to come if you don’t want mom to come over,” Vin said and he rubbed his forehead.
