“Positive,” Dr. Malcolm dropped the bombshell and Cisco was dumbfounded for a minute, she is pregnant he is sure of it.
But, he can’t be the father, can he? He turned to face Chloe who was smiling at Dr. Malcolm.
“We are a paternity test done,” Cisco reminded her and stood up. “Thanks for your time,” he appreciated Dr. Malcolm before walking out of his office.
Chloe followed but to her dismay, Cisco drove away, she wanted to run after him but it might not be healthy for her baby so she stayed.
“Why are you like this, my love? How long can you keep this up?” She asked no one as she started at the plate number of his car.
“I am carrying your child, there is no escape from me,” she rubbed her tummy and turned in another direction.
She dialed a number and the person picked up on the third ring. “Let’s meet up,” she said and hang up.
She smiled as she walked further away from the hospital, she loved the setting sun on her skin.
“Unlike this sun, I will always be a part of your life. I won’t disappear, not even for a moment,” she muttered as she walked.
*********
“My love,” Mrs. Robery called as she rushed to hug Romina who was standing with Allison, Sol, and Mavis.
“Mom,” Thea called as they hugged. “Huh?” Mrs. Robert disengaged from the hug and stared at Thea’s not-so-obvious baby bump.
“Is that a baby bump?” She asked the obvious. “Yes, mom,” Thea answered.
She raised her hand in search of something they all guessed a ring, she frowned when she found nothing.
“You are not married, how did you get pregnant?” She questioned.
“My boyfriend, who I am supposed to marry…., the father of my child, he… Is dead,” she bowed her head as she spoke.
Mrs. Robert was dumbfounded, she wanted to scold her for getting pregnant before marriage but she lost her tongue.
“Aunt,” Mavis called to change the topic. “I am sorry,” Mrs. Robert apologized before hugging her.
Mavis smiled at Allison who winked, Sol just watched the drama since he was clueless about all that was going on.
“Mavis,” Mrs. Robert called as she disengage from the hug and Mavis hugged her.
“I don’t think we have met before, have we?” Mrs. Robert asked Allison.
“No, I am Allison, Thea’s friend,” she introduced herself. “Nice to meet you,” Mrs. Robert replied.
“And I am Solomon, Sol for short she is the mother of my future best friend who I was told have to wait for eight months to meet,” he blurted and everyone laughed.
“Why are you laughing? I didn’t laugh at your introductions,” he complained. “It’s nice to meet you, Sol,” Mrs. Robert shook his hand.
“We should go home, it is too sunny,” Mavis said and Thea nodded in agreement.
“No, we should visit your dad, I miss my husband so much,” Mrs. Robert protested.
“Are you sure mom? You just got out, don’t you wanna rest?” Thea asked hoping she would change her mind.
“No, let’s go so that I will rest early,” she said instead and Thea glanced at Mavis who nodded.
“Fine,” Thea agreed and they walked to the car, Mrs. Robert was confused since Mavis didn’t drive to the hospital
She wanted to protest but she guessed they changed hospitals so she sat quietly, Mavis stopped in front of a cemetery and her eyes widened.
“Why are we here?” She decided to ask despite knowing the response.
“I am sorry mom,” Thea apologized with tears streaming down her cheek.
“Take me to him,” she demanded. Mrs. Robert wept at her husband’s grave, she never thought they would be separated at such an early age
She wished she never lost get sanity, she should have stayed with him as he struggled but she fell sick too and he struggled all alone.
He must have been lonely at his final breath, with no one to hold his hand.
Five months later…
Thea walked out of the bathroom with a towel around her chest, the towel could barely cover her @ss due to her eight months old baby bump.
“What are we going to wear today?” She asked her baby as she rubbed her tummy. “Do you want mommy to wear a huge gown, or a tight gown, or nothing?” She asked with her gaze on her stomach.
“Just wear something it’s not like the child can hear you,” Mrs. Robert said as she walked in with a tray of food.
“I am going to have a girl and I have a feeling she is going to lobe fashion, I should teach her about these things. The earlier the better,” she winked at her mom.
“What if it’s a boy?” Mrs. Robert asked. “It can’t be, I know it is going to be a girl,” she replied.
“If only you had checked the gender we won’t be having this argument,” Mrs. Robert said and picked a sky blue long gown afterward.
“Wear this,” she said. “My baby doesn’t like blue, she loves white,” Thea pouted.
“Will you stop acting like a baby and dress up,” Mrs. Robert scolded.
“I am going out with Allison and Sol later, we are going to shop for baby things,” Thea informed Mrs. Robert as she got dressed.
“Okay, be careful not to get hurt,” she warned. “You sound like you love me,” Thea mumbled.
“I am worried about my grandson, don’t get your hopes up,” she replied.
“Geez mom, I am going to have a girl,” she stated with a frown. “And get a mini version of you? No, thanks. You are going to have a not they will look exactly like his father,” Mrs. Robert uttered smiling.
Thea turned to face the mirror, “I want my child to be nothing like him,” she mumbled inaudibly.
“I will be in the leaving room,” Mrs. Robert who was unaware of her change in mood left, Thea loved the color of her skin.
“I know you don’t want this but we have to obey grandma,” she spoke to her stomach, she has been trying everything possible to get rid of Cisco but she is still madly in love with him just as much as she hates him.
It’s funny how she hates and loves him at the same time, or could she just be mad?
********
Cisco was trying to work but Chloe would not let him, she insist on shopping for the baby’s things together.
“You still have two months to go,” Cisco stated with his gaze on the laptop in front of him.
“I know but we have to prepare in advance, what if I develop complications? Will our baby go home naked?” She asked.
She didn’t shop for baby things because she wanted to go shopping with Cisco, he has done a good job of ignoring her.
She moved in a week after she informed him of her pregnancy
They sleep in different rooms and he hardly eats at the same table with her, she endured it all since it was going to be over once her child is born.
“Do you want to have complications?” He threw the question at her.
“It doesn’t matter, any thing can happen let’s just think from all angles,” she replied. “I don’t wanna leave my office,” Cisco stated coldly and she glared at him.
“I am going to throw a tantrum if you don’t go with me,” she threatened. “You don’t believe me?” She asked when he does not seem affected by her threat.
“I might hurt myself and the baby in the process,” She added, he doesn’t show that he cares but part of him wants to take care of the baby just in case the baby is his.
“Fine!” He groaned and stood up, he picked up his suit and wore it. “It isn’t going to be less than an hour,” he declared before leasing the way.
In a mall were Sol, Thea, and Allison. Allison pushes the cart while Thea held Sol.
“I can’t believe I won’t get to meet my best friend as soon as he is out,” Sol pouted sadly as he picked a toy.
He and Allison are leaving the following week, “You can face time,” Allison suggested.
“It won’t be fun,” he complained. “He can stay with me until I give birth,” Thea suggested.
“He is going to be a burden,” Allison replied. “Mom is going to be there,” Thea reminded her.
“No, I won’t have her bother the poor woman,” Allison replied with a shrug.
“Did you just call my mom poor?” Thea queried as she held her tummy and turned to face her.
“I am sorry, I meant…..” Allison trailed off as her eyes caught Cisco and Chloe.
Chloe’s baby bump was barely covered in her top and the trouser looked ugly on her.
“What? Aren’t you going to apologize?” Thea asked but Allison simply stared, Thea, got curious and made to turn around.
