Valerie ran out of her car, her heart tearing apart.
Tears streaked her cheeks as she ran into the sitting room and met her mum making a call.
“Valerie!” Mrs Houston ended that call immediately, taken abacked by her daughter’s mood.
“Valerie, what is…”
“I want to be alone, mum!” She said tearfully and ran up the stairs, to her room.
Getting there, she bursted into real tears, weeping profusely.
She felt so hurt; terribly hurt. Her beauty was gone and she was need going to get it back – never.
Jericho was unconscious, her party was just a few days away and she’s been warned never to show her face to Jericho. How can she survive it? She needed her beauty back.
“Valerie?” She heard her mother knock on the door, but didn’t even move.
“Valerie come on, open the door. Please. Let’s talk about this” Mrs Houston begged.
“Let me be, mum! I don’t wanna talk to anyone. And cancel the birthday preparations!!”she yelled and bursted into more tears.
Mrs Houston was stunned as she stood outside the door. Good lord! What has gotten into her daughter?
“Valerie…” She kept knocking and calling out to her for minutes, but Valerie never opened the door.
*************
It was almost evening
Valerie brushed her hair in front of the mirror and parked it into a fine ponytail. She moved her hands to her cheeks and touched the slightly rough surface – her spots.
They were there to stay – the horrible thoughts niggled at her. The spots were there to stay forever.
She sniffed and reached for her scarf, but having a second thought, she dropped it, concluding it was a waste of time to have it on.
Would I have to wear a scarf for the rest of my life? She thought as she walked out of the room with her bag.
Climbing down the stairs to the sitting room, she met her mum there as usual.
“Valerie” Mrs Houston called the moment she spotted her.
“Oh my baby! I’ve been so worried. Valerie, what’s going on?”
Valerie sighed and adjusted her bag around her wrist
“I’m fine mum. Sorry for yelling at you back then. I was just… I was just in a fowl mood” Valerie replied dazily.
“But what was the problem, honey? What happened? Why are you canceling the birthday preparations?”
“Forget about what I said earlier. You can go on with the preparations, I’m sorry”
“Valerie…”
“I need to get soemthing from the mall. Bye” she added dolefully and left.
Mrs Houston was more than worried. What exactly could be wrong with her daughter, huh?

Valerie parked in front of the mall, stepped out with her bag and walked in.
As expected, a lot of eyes kept rotating around her, wondering if it wasn’t the “pretty Valerie” they all knew.
But with Valerie already prepared, she ignored everyone of them and walked into the mall to get whar she wanted.
She took the items, paid for them, and on her way to her car, she bumped into someone she wished she didn’t have to – Lincoln.
Good lord!
They both stopped walking as they stared at each, Valerie’s heart in her throat.
He’d finally seen her face! The same face she’s been trying so hard to hide from him.
Oh God!
“Valerie?” Lincoln scoffed.
But Valerie noticed something, he wasn’t looking as surprised and awful as she had expected him to look.
“Finally, we meet again after so many days”. He added.
Valerie sighed and decided to get rid of her anxiety .
“Well, I guess it’s because you’ve been too busy with ivy” she snorted.
“And I guess it’s because you’ve been too busy with Jericho” Lincoln also said and Valerie’s eyes dimmed.
Whaaat?? How the hell did he know about Jericho?
“How’s your new boyfriend doing, Val?” He chuckled, liking the surprise he saw on her face.
“He’s not…my boyfriend”
“Oh, really? Yet, you’re always hanging out with him? Going to his house? I thought you had some class?”
“Shut up, Lincoln! And yes, I do have some class. I don’t even think you’re worth the explanation. So you can go ahead and think whatever you want to” she snapped and tried walking away, but Lincoln pulled her back by the arm.
“Take a look at yourself, Valerie. I guess that’s the reason your face got ruined. You’ll never change”. He said.
“And you’ll never change either. You don’t even deserve someone like me, Jericho. 48 hours and you’re already into another woman? Even if you’d seen me someone else, couldn’t you had asked for an explanation before jumping into conclusions? You ignored my calls while you took my enemy out on a date. Just let me go!” She rasped and wriggled her arm away from his.
“You know what? You’re right” Lincoln scoffed.
“I obviously don’t deserve someone like you. Ivy’s got more class and with your current state, she’s prettier”.
Valerie felt a sting in her heart. Her palm itched to slap him. Tears threatened to spill her eyes, but she fought them back. Hell no; she was never going shed a tear in front of this guy.
“Why am I just seeing this?” She asked in a mutter, staring directly into his face. “Why am I just seeing the fact that you’re a jerk?
“Just admit it, Lincoln. You’re angry because I refused giving my body to you the other night. Well, you wouldn’t blame me because the thing is, you suck in bed. When you thought you were f*”king me, I actually thought you were fingering me”.
Lincoln was gob smacked and with that, she walked away.
