Valerie and Monhana followed the plump woman behind as she probably led them to the kitchen?
It was a short distance as it didn’t take them long before arriving at a foot where the woman stopped walking.
“This is as far as you can get, Monhana” Madame Nana turned to her and said.
Oh….
Valerie suddenly felt herself becoming sad; just like a kid who was being dropped off in school.
“Take care of yourself, dear” Monhana held Valerie’s hand and said.
“Don’t worry, I’ll come pick you up by evening, okay?”
“Alright” Valerie nodded lightly.
And afterwards, Monhana left.
“Come on now, pretty one” Madame Nana snapped back her attention and walked into the big kitchen, while Valerie followed.
The kitchen was so big and mighty, Valerie wondered if they had to combine three rooms to get it.
There were so many ladies in it – moving around like bees with either a bowl, tray or some other items. Valerie noticed they were all uniformly dressed.
Neat floors, neat counters, neat stoves … It was so beautiful to Valerie.
“Tammy!” Madame Nana suddenly called, and one of the ladies came running to her.
She wore an apron and had some hem leaves with her.
“Madame Nana” she responded.
Her eyes glanced at Valerie.
“We have a new maid. Take care of her appearance and fix her in” Nana instructed.
“Sure, Madame Nana.
Hey, come with me” she titled her head towards Valerie and began walking away.
“Be good, pretty one” Nana said to Valerie and left.
She had this lasting strict look on.
Valerie followed the girl behind as they walked pass the other people in the room who disks really pay attention to her.
They got to a smaller room where the lady pulled out a cloth that looked just like the uniform she was putting on.
“Here. You can dress in here” she said to Valerie after handing the uniform to her and Valerie said nothing as she just walked into the room.
She found other causal dresses being hung there and guessed it belonged to the other workers. Perhaps, when they were done with work for the day, they’d all change back to their normal dresses before heading home.
Valerie took off the clothes she had on and replaced it with the uniform. Now, she really felt like a maid.
Goodness! Valerie Houston – spoilt Daughter of the Billionaire, the famous model, dressed like a maid? What an irony.
She scoffed as she found a place to hang her dress and finally concluded the notion with her hand on her tummy. She wouldn’t deny it; she felt so scared. What if she gets hurt? Or over stresses herself and hurt the baby? What if it happens at the middle of work? In public?
Gosh! She really didn’t want to get caught; she wouldn’t know what to do.
“Are you not done yet?!” She heard a voice from outside the room and was surprised to know the lady was actually waiting for her.
She opened the door immediately and stepped out.
“What took you so long, huh?” She asked, but not in a rash way, tho.
But, Valerie said nothing as they started walking away; probably to her working spot.
“So, what’s your name? I’m Tammy” the lady said.
“Well, I’m… Fiona’ Valerie replied.
God! It felt so odd lying about her name.
“Fiona – nice name. Well, we have a lot to do in the kitchen today, pretty. There’s a meeting coming up and lots of food has to be served. I hope you enjoy working here. Come on….”.
She led Valerie to the counter beside hers and directed her on what to do.
************************
In a bright room;
A big refurbished room – bed, chair, make up table, a beaded crown which hadn’t been used in a long while;
A fanciful wardrobe, an inner room;
The room looked so perfect; just for a Queen.
And that was indeed, the Queen’s room – Queen Ophelia.
She sat there in the wooden chair, as cold as ice with her gaze just staring into blank space. She was blinkonfy, but wasn’t looking around.
The door opened shortly with her youngest son – Klaus coming in.
Klaus paused at the door and spared some glances at his mother, wishing that morning would be different; wishing it wouldn’t have to be like other mornings when he’d just go in, try to talk to her, but leave the same.
He shook his head as he closed the door and went closer to meet her.
“Hi, Mother he cooed, touching her arm.
But, as usual, there was no response. Her eyes were just fixed into space.
“How’re you doing? Um…. Your night was fine?”
Queen Ophelia still gave no response, and it was eating Klaus up as usual. Why was his mother’s condition like this? What could’ve possibly made her this way? He couldn’t believe his mother has been this way for over two years …
They just heard she passed out, and on reaching there, found her like this. Even Jericho has been unable to heal her; claims he doesn’t know what the problem was.
“I wish you could just talk to me, mother” he pleaded.
“I wish you could say something. Please….”
But, there was still no response.
